ABOUT NICK
Nick Hennessey is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Masters of Architecture program from the University of Michigan and a Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelors of Science in Architecture and Interior Design from Ball State University. He is also an Alumnus member of the social fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and is actively involved with various alumni and social programs, volunteering for various organizations, one in particular being Special Olympics of Hamilton County where he is the co-founder and head coach for Tennis.
His current research is focused on creating barrier free environments with a specific emphasis in designing an inclusive and equitable spaces and advocating for the eradication of hostile design and architecture. Growing up, he has been embraced by individuals with both physical and intellectual disabilities through volunteering within his local community. Overtime, Nick noticed that design at all levels has had an impact on everyone, specifically the way individuals with disabilities interact within their environment. Using his education as a platform for growth and research, he explored various ways design can begin to alter the thought process to begin to think of all users, not just the normative; finding that the needs of the disabled coincide with the needs of the majority. This leads him to question the role of architects and designers, that design can do more. Designers can do better!
